System Engineer – Lighting

General Description

Work with Customer, Sales and Engineering teams to develop new automotive electronic exterior lighting systems based on OEM customer requirements, with typical focus on rear lighting LED subassemblies/modules

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Support Sales at quoting new businesses through evaluation, proposal and presentation of technical electrical/thermal solutions and effort estimations for exterior rear lighting products
2. Analyze customer requirements and translate them into internal specifications and workflows
3. Support Program Management in technical discussions and negotiations with OEM customers regarding the feasibility, cost and timing of new development items
4. Support the advance exploration of new product solution concepts, platforms and architectures
5. Guide the development, maintenance and communication of new product development content, validation and timing within the Electrical Design Engineering Team
6. Support the creation and communication of hardware design guidelines
7. Support the definition and evaluation of lighting subassembly validation testing plans and results
8. Support technical design reviews to ensure conformance to customer requirements
9. Provide support to application teams for identification of root cause for issues and corrective action plans
10. Provide general support as assigned to achieve company objectives
11. Review lessons learned from database
12. Create and update preliminary system level DFMEA
13. Create Requirements for Design (such as LDM Requirement, etc)
14. Support functional safety and software validation activities
15. Review electrical design activities with customers
16. Set up and conduct system integration test plan
17. Approve electrical drawing to PDM
18. Work within cross-functional and cross-regional teams to ensure projects are completed effectively and efficiently ”

Job Requirements

Work Experience and Education
5 – 10 years’ experience in exterior lighting product design and development
Minimum Bachelors of Science (Electrical Engineering), Masters of Science Electrical Engineering preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Proficient in automotive electrical hardware architectural models, schematic design and good working knowledge of exterior lighting product design and development cycles
2. Solid understanding of automotive electronics development process (Specification management, DFMEA, PFMEA)
3. Proficient in English is required to directly negotiate with OEM customers regarding requirements (features, performance, testing, timing) and to translate into internal specifications and workflows
4. Able to evaluate systems and make recommendations for improvements and solutions
5. Establish and foster strong two-way communications with global development teams to ensure that product developments and architectures conform to company strategy and best practice
6. Provide support for supplier development activities to ensure alignment between technical expectations and capabilities
7. Knowledge in Allegro and PSpice a plus
8. Knowledge in regulations such as: LED applications, FMVSS No. 108, GMW3172, GMW3097 a plus
